Nancy Bruno - Photographer
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with photography. As a little girl, I would search for images in books, on walls, or in antique frames hoping to glimpse into the past to better understand the present. Stark images tell the stories of life’s greatest triumphs and tragedies, the smallest of victories, the rarest of opportunities and simplest moments of everyday life.
I have mastered two very different areas of my craft: architectural/interior photography and documentary photography. As an architectural and interior design photographer, my eye for angles, symmetry, and detail allow me to fully capture the elegance and spaciousness of any room or building. I prefer to work on location, and with the environment’s natural lighting and design, as my images reflect the true nature and beauty of any space. I believe that, like humanity, spaces have their own story to tell, and it is my job to bring those stories to light for viewers to fully appreciate. My work with environmental spaces is an extension of my passion for story telling with photographic images.
As a documentary artist, I tell stories through my camera lens. I find myself writing the life stories of my subjects, giving voice to their images. My unique style of becoming “invisible” allows subjects to live freely and unencumbered by the presence of a camera and as a result, true life stories play out in front of my camera’s lens. Always eager to examine the many faces of humanity, I have completed a variety of photo‐documentary series including: an intimate celebration of beauty focusing on thirty five women ages three to eighty‐nine, a bold challenge of the definition of a positive male roles model in today’s society, the bonds of a community devoted to thoroughbred horse racing, the observations of a foreigner living within a new culture, the simple beauty of a father/son relationship, as well as the examination of how architecture influences life in a metropolis or small town. With each series I create, my goal is not only to capture the essence of my subjects in their truest expression, but also to allow my audience to create meaning through their mind’s eye.
