| Debra Carpenter- Artist
Born and raised in the tri-city area, I moved to Guilderland when I married my very supportive hubby.
While I had dabbled a bit with sketches as a teenager and in my early twenties, it was not until 2006 when I enrolled in my first class that involved the liquid form of art. The class was Landscape in Watercolor. The instructor, Marta Jaremko, was incredible! I had just finished my degree and didn't quite know what to do with all that spare time. This new-found hobby is now my passion.
Using the opaque method, the majority of my work is a mixture of watercolor and gouache. Wanting to do larger paintings, I’ve recently begun to work with oil. While watercolor will always be my first love, I just love the rich color and texture you can accomplish in this medium.
Most of my work involves landscapes/seascapes, but I always try to include something manmade in every piece. A sort of woman vs. nature type theme.
With my pen name, just Deb, I also like to include a bit of history and/or location of the places I have tried to replicate in my work.
