Marilyn Rock Artist
I was born and raised in Schenectady, New York and continue to live there.

My art journey began approximately 14 years ago with the planting of a seed called the greeting card. Who would have thought this little seed would blossom into the world of collage and mixed media?

Art has become a passion and I am so fortunate that I found it, or perhaps, it has found me and just at the right time of my life. My eyes, mind, heart and spirit are opened wider than every before. Each day is filled with appreciating even the smallest detail around me looking at it through an artistic eye.

Along with the actual creative process, I also love sharing art which has offered an opportunity for me to teach and share my expertise with others. I currently have the privilege and opportunity to teach at the Albany Art Room. My goal, with teaching, is to encourage students to express themselves in their own way with techniques that I have learned and created along the way. Some of my class offerings are: Introduction to collage, acrylic painting incorporating collage, background techniques for collage, altered books, and I also run a monthly collage clinic at the Albany Art Room. This allows participants some art time, for themselves, learn new techniques and finish any art projects that they've started but haven't been able to finish.

My favorite art expression is collage and combining this with acrylic medium as well as textures and 3-D elements. I love collecting old photos, postcards, and ephemera to include them in my art. I love expressions on faces which often spark the inspiration for a piece. My style of art tends to lean towards vintage. However, with my recent discovery of acrylic painting, I'm starting to jump a little bit outside the vintage box.

Some of my works have been published in some popular art magazines; including Somerset Studio and ARTitude Zine magazines, very popular among artists all over the world. My art also appears in a book called 1,000 Artist Trading Cards which was published in 2007. I've contributed articles for websites including Art-e-zine, a reknowned website founded by Gillian Allen.

I recently received an Honorable Mention award at the 57th Villagers' Stockade Art Show in Schenectady, New York for one of my mixed/media pieces "Uprooted" and with this same piece, was awarded a 2nd prize through a juried show with the Colonie Art League..
