Maggie Schmidt - Artist
I grew up in the Southern Tier of New York, lived in various places and have traveled extensively. Mountain climbing, biking and kayaking are some of my favorite outdoor hobbies. These places and experiences are very influential in my work. No matter where I am, I have been aware and aroused by the natural world around me and this is reflected by the choices I make for my subject matter.
As a graduate of Potsdam State, I taught for a number of years in private schools, for the State at a delinquent facility, and as a Children’s Librarian in Vail Colorado. In each situation I became active in teaching art to children or became involved with programs that needed artistic direction. I am still active in the field of teaching. I substitute at a local school and teach Yoga at my home studio.
Through various courses at colleges and workshops I have developed a taste for working in three mediums - Clay, painting of gourds, and watercolors. I have my own studio at home, which is a farm, and enjoy integrating my artistic interests with my work and play.
